The fifth men’s $15,000 professional tennis tournament Wasa Open kicked off in sunny conditions at Vaskiluoto’s Vaasa Sportpark. The first round of qualifying was played on the opening day. There were 8 Finnish players, of whom Valtteri Tuukkanen and Otso Martikainen made it to the second round. The closest Finn to a place in the next round was Vaasa’s own son Eeli Pihlaja, who lost to England’s Rahul Dhokia in the decisive Match tie-break 8-10, after already leading 8-6.
