On the third and sunny day of the Wasa Open, Wednesday, the first round of the singles main draw was played. There were eight Finnish players in the heat, with Eeli Pihlaja joining as a Lucky Loser.

Peetu Pohjola defeated Louis Van Herck from Luxembourg 7–5, 7–5 in a tight match. Vesa Ahti, on the other hand, suffered a narrow 4–6, 6–7 defeat to Moritz Kudernatsch from Germany. Eeli Pihlaja also suffered a defeat to Melvin Kumar from Sweden 0–6, 4–6. Aleksi Löfman defeated Oskar Brorström Poulsen from Denmark 6–4, 6–7, 6–2 in an exciting and high-quality match. Leevi Säätelä defeated Joris Hoogland of the Netherlands 6–2, 6–4.
In the match between the Finns, Oskari Eerola defeated Otso Martikainen 6–3, 6–3. Elis Fjällberg suffered a 0–6, 2–6 defeat to Switzerland’s Nicolas Kobelt. As a result, four Finns will continue their singles matches on Thursday.

The match with Australia’s Cruz Hewitt received the most attention. In it, the young son of a famous father cleared his way to the second round by defeating Switzerland’s Laurin Aerne 6–2, 6–1.

The second round of singles and the quarterfinals of doubles will be played on Thursday, with matches starting at 10:00 in Vaasa Sportpark.
