The first day of competition at the Wasa Open was played in good conditions. The first round of the singels qualifiers featured no fewer than 12 Finnish players. Felix Alopaeus, Oskar Antinheimo, Elis Fjällberg and Vaasa’s own son Eeli Pihlaja made it to the second round, defeating Germany’s eighth seeded Luca Hesselmann 4-6, 7-6, 12-10.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the second round of the qualifiers will be played, with the winners advancing to the main draw. Eeli Pihlaja will face another Finn, Elis Fjällberg, in a match that starts at around 11:30. Oskar Antinheimo will face Denmark’s Oskar Brorström Poulsen, and Felix Alopaeus will face Tom Zeuch from Germany.

The first round of the doubles will also be played tomorrow, featuring four all-Finnish pairs and three pairs with one Finnish player. The main draw of the singles will begin on Wednesday.
